Medialab is a platform connecting culture, social activism, education and technology. We create a space for experimentation and collaboration, we share knowledge, we look for solutions. We work for the responsible use of new media and technology for cultural and social development.
How do we operate?
Medialab creates projects and activities that support the development of culture through the use of new technologies, engages in media education activities, and creates a meeting space for experts and enthusiasts from various fields, especially the creative and digital industries.
Medialab's main fields of activity revolve around the slogans „openness”, „ReUSE” and „digital humanities”. We put these into practice with several broader projects: New Media Workshop, Digital Culture Forum, Public Domain Days, ANIMATON and MUSICJAM.
Pracownia Nowych Mediów is a project consisting of genealogy workshops, archives, hackathons, activities focused on discovering the history of Gdansk and showing it as a source of inspiration. The Digital Culture Forum is an event that integrates the cultural and creative sectors and supports the potential of their collaboration. Public Domain Days is a series of activities focused around public domain collections popularising their potential and creative use. ANIMATON was created to integrate the computer animation community, while MUSICJAM is a hackathon, a celebration of music and technology in one.
An important part of Medialab's activities is media and informal education focused on topics such as communication competence research, programming, coding, digital humanities, critical thinking, fake news.
Medialab is a partner of the Media Educator blog, and we also collaborate with local UG and PG academia and the Discourse and Dialogue Institute Foundation.
